YU:EXIST

A DEATH AND REBIRTH JOURNEY

Many of us exist in societies that are ill-equipped to support and educate us on the inevitable and shared topics of impermanence, mortality, and death. As we continue to experience mass loss, avoiding and neglecting these topics only creates more fear, anxiety, and further disconnects us from our lives. There is a better way

YU:EXIST (yu translates "to exist" in Lao) is an empowering 4-week experience designed to re-engage you to your life and to our shared world. Through learnings, practices, self-reflection and community gatherings, you’ll receive invaluable insights and awareness while making new connections and discoveries about your life. This can serve as a pathway to better understand, accept, heal, and prepare for the end-of-life.

It’s been proven that when we’re able to mindfully bring death into our awareness, we can make positive changes in our lives, have more compassion for others and develop a greater desire to give back and contribute to the world. By exploring and facing our impermanence and death of all kinds, we grant ourselves the opportunity to renew our sense of living and enhance our quality of life.

WEEKLY FLOW OF YU

WEEK 1:

MEET

In Week One, we co-create community as we draw upon our lived experiences and expand upon our understanding of our mortality, impermanence, and death. Through awareness building, reflection, and discussion, we’ll learn how developing a connection to death can shift the way we live–and how doing so can positively contribute to our wellbeing and the wellbeing of the world.

WEEK 2:

LET GO

Week Two deepens our self exploration and contemplation practice through learning and ritual. We’ll learn about our death-avoidant society through a historical and modern lens while understanding how death-avoidance affects how we live, individually and collectively. We acknowledge our fears, learn ways to alleviate them, reflect on the top regrets of the dying, and participate in a letting go practice that prepares us for our death and rebirth meditation in Week Three.

WEEK 3: EXPERIENCE

The previous two weeks prepare us for Week Three – a death and rebirth meditation. This death and rebirth meditation is influenced and gives reverence to ancient Buddhist death contemplations and Japanese and Korean Living Funerals to fully embody and deepen what it means to be alive. In a supportive environment, you’ll experience a renewed connection and appreciation for your life.

WEEK 4:

COMMIT

Drawing on all our learnings, reflections, and realizations over the previous three weeks, Week Four focuses on our commitment to our lives and our world. We explore legacy, ancestors, and end-of-life planning that expands upon our individual experiences, outwards. We close in remembrance of all that we’ve experienced and celebrate our lives ahead.

What People Are Saying

Please note, YU:EXIST it the latest version of Lunar Journey.

I have found that often when we feel a sense of completeness we are indeed in a space of unraveling. Experiencing YU: Exist has accelerated my healing journey and brought awareness to time and how I live inside meaning. I recommend this offering for anyone who is open to evolving their wholeheartedness and seeks to dive deeper into their pain as a conduit for existential mending. The outcome holds a sublime grounding within the truth of our vastness here on earth.

— Pearl

“Joining Lunar Journey was one of the best decisions I ever made for myself. There's been an exponential shift in how I approach my life and cultivate my relations in ways I never imagined, Lunar Journey has helped me navigate the blockages that were holding me back from living authentically and with intention. I've felt a transformational shift in how I approach conversations around death with myself and others. I didn't realize that my strongest intention was to keep an open mind and embrace the experience until after the course. so much of what I perceived death to be is slowly being stripped away - for the better - and I am embracing a completely new approach to living life. I can't thank Mangda enough.”

— Colleen

“I didn’t know what to expect when entering Lunar Journey. I was scared of what would come up when I looked at my own fear and concept of death. The group container was held so well and super intimate. I felt so comfortable just sharing where I was at and allowing myself to be held. Since ending Lunar Journey, I have made the changes in my career I’ve been wanting to make for years. I make more art. I leave more time for rest and connecting to nature. I feel more connected to the pleasure of being in this body. Thinking about death has connected me more deeply to my life.”

— Madison

I’m so grateful for our intimate YU group. The small cohort size allowed us to go deep and connect with one another more meaningfully. Mangda’s guidance is such a generous gift in itself– the way she grounds the group's energy while creating space for fluidity, curiosity, softness and even play is a rare pleasure to find among facilitators! YU served as a lovely root in my eternal quest of defining, navigating, and sharing experiences around love and desire. What do we value? Whom do we hold dear? How can we more dynamically hold the complexities of grief, integrate or reframe fear / loss, and move from embedded scarcity mindsets into regenerative spaces of abundance, of collective care? These were just a few questions I was able to cozy up with during our time together. The embodied ceremony Mangda leads you through toward the end of the program was one of my favorite experiences of last year. I highly recommend YU! It recharged my creative practices as a filmmaker, writer, and community leader, by granting ourselves sacred space to process feelings that capitalism shies away from, and instead make room for deep listening, dream work, and profound support.

— Arianne

“Lunar Journey helped me generate more awareness about death and my relationship with it. It facilitated a deep unraveling within me about my patterns related to control and thus not being able to let go. This deepened my relationship with impermanence. It helped me cultivate a deeper sense of un-attachment with myself and my environment. Lunar Journey is an initiation. Initiation into one's own deep psyche to shed layers of all that one is attached to and being born anew. It is an initiation into impermanence. I highly recommend it to those people who are committed to understanding themselves through different layers of life and are not afraid to go to uncomfortable places within. This course gives a deep insight into one's relationship with death and impermanence.”

— Mehwash

“My intention in enrolling was to bring my attention more to the present in my day-to-day life and to use impermanence as a way to insert joy and action in my present. and yup! it worked! i feel lighter, happier, more focused and present. I have a refreshed and renewed sense of purpose, savoring smaller moments of life and beauty throughout the day. i suspect i'll be feeling the lessons of this journey for a very long time and they'll unravel and reveal themselves little by little.”

— Yisa

I loved the intimacy that was cultivated between our group. It was so real, vulnerable, emergent, and revelatory. I already miss it! I really appreciated Mangda's presence and attention, regular check-ins and space holding. Mangda is an incredibly intuitive, grounded, and genuine force.

— Sarafina

“I signed up for Lunar Journey at a turning point in my life, hoping to create a doorway into a more fearless version of myself through squarely facing my grief and my fear of Death and Impermanence. At its completion I know I've only just begun to see what will unfold from this beautiful and powerful experience. My relationship with Death is deeply altered at its base and I notice other long held fears melting away. I am so much lighter, more rooted into the Earth and its cycles, and rooted in my purpose, power and intention for moving forward. Mangda's soft contemplative guidance makes the Lunar Journey space feel like the safest place you can imagine to face your fears and let go. I've rarely felt so lovingly witnessed and held.”

— Hannah

“I signed up for the Lunar Journey not knowing what to expect, but I got so much out of it in so many ways. I received inspiration from our discussions, uplifting vibes even in a virtual setting, and feeling more in touch with the phases of the moon, which is still new to me. Mangda guided all of our discussions with so much openness and patience and I instantly felt like it was a safe space to explore my death curiosities. If you're on the fence about joining, this is your sign to do it!”

— Marielle

“Thank you for a beautiful experience! It is still continuing to unfold for me, as I’m sure it will for my whole life! This space was a launching pad, a safe place to begin exploring impermanence and my relationship to it. Over the course of the month, I felt our community grow together in ways it can be hard to do in daily life- so special. Overall, I feel a greater sense of peace and confidence that I can face the inevitability of life and death with an open heart. So grateful for this experience. Thank you for your warmth and authenticity and being so flexible to hold this space for both of us.”

— Hailey

Through the honest and supportive space BACII has created, this is a place to honor your depth and show up just as you are. I highly recommend investigating if this offering, or anything BACII is up to, is calling you and following that intuition! “
